Here's where it all started. Unsuspecting Beth, 10 days before the suprise, early arrival of Nathaniel.

 IT'S A BOY!! Nathaniel Paul Friday, 9 September 2005, 14:26 (3 months early) Weight: 1.080kg (2lbs 6oz) Height: 35.5cm (14in)
Little Nate, Friday 9 September 2005 at 21:40 (around 7 hours after the successful cesarean).
Little Nate got through the night, but didn't want to open his eyes the next morning.
He is small, but resting well. He's also starting to enjoy some small meals through his feeding tube.
Getting some air, but not opening the eyes yet. The grey thing on his wrist is to check his blood-oxygen level.
2 days old! He's still got the 2 catheters in his belly-button (just under the white bandage on his stomach), but one of those comes out soon.
 Not the best lighting...
...but he's taking a look at his new world...
...and playing peek-a-boo from behind the catheder in his arm. The catheter gives him some anti-biotics as well as some extra sugars.
Is that a smile I see!?!
Beth in her hospital gown, working in Nate's tropical paradise (late on sunday night). The monitor in the background shows his vitals. The contraption on the right manages his intravenous intake.
3 days old and life is already a beach. (Evening, 12 Sept 2005)
'Oh, hey. Can you close the door? It's getting a bit chilly in here.'
'This place is great! Massages and everything.'
 So small, but looking relaxed.
Mom and Nate doing the Kangaroo. Skin-to-skin contact is very healthy for the baby, but Nate got a bit cold so he had to go back to his tropical house. (Morning 13 September 2005)
Little Nate has apnea so sometimes he has to belly up to the oxygen mask. (Evening 14 Sept 2005)
 Mmm, oxygen.
'Say, can you help me bring this oxygen mask closer?' (Morning 15 Sept 2005)
 'Yes, my parents are human.'
 'Who's that beind the glass?'
 'So much attention!'
Beth and Nate. The tanish colored stuff on his head is the flash reflecting off the little hairs that cover his body.
'I love my CPAP.' The CPAP give him a steady flow of air, but he still has to do the breathing on his own. If he forgets, the nurses remind him.

In the afternoon (15 Sept 2005), Beth and Nate did their 2nd Kangaroo. This time Nate didn't get cold so he and Mommy stayed together for about 1 hour.
'It's just so nice here, I don't want to leave!'
It's your 1 week birthday today! (16 Sept 2005) And you're all dressed in your birthday-best.
 It's good to exercise too.
But that can make you tired.
Nate just after his birthday wash. Don't get too comfortable yet, you still have to get dressed.
